Best Sewing Patterns: Last Minute Gifting

Left Christmas gifts to the last minute and now racking your brains for what to get for everyone? Me too but don’t worry, I’ve got you covered. Keeping this one super simple, these patterns are all household items/accessories that you can whip up in just a few short hours, all are unisex AND you don’t have to worry about getting the right size for whoever you’re gifting to.

Some of these patterns are also great scrap busting projects, so you may even have everything you need already in your fabric stash. WIN-WIN. With no time to waste, let’s get into it…

1. Something for Everyone Bundle

Starting off strong, we have Rosie Caldwell – the home of great bag and gift sewing patterns To make sure you are well and truly covered, they have put together the Winter Pattern Bundle which includes sewing patterns for the hot water bottle cover, the drawstring bag and the quilted Christmas stocking. You can of course buy these patterns separately, but realistically you’ll end up buying them all anyway, so you may as well take advantage of the bundle offer!

All are gorgeous patterns that you can customise with different colours and fabric patterns to suit the lucky recipient. Each one is beginner friendly and comes with a YouTube tutorial for the visual learners amongst us. Of course, the quilted stocking is particularly Christmassy, so if you’re looking for a good place to start, I think this is it!

2. FREE Eye Mask

If there’s one thing we love more than a simple, beginner-friendly sewing pattern, it’s a FREE beginner-friendly sewing pattern. So in this season of giving, we have to give a big shoutout to Tilly and the Buttons, for their free Eye Mask sewing pattern. It is the ultimate scrap-busting project, so you really can be good to go with this in less than 10 minutes, with a YouTube tutorial to follow-along to. This in a satin would be perfect for the ultimate chic gifting, or you could add some frills around the edge for a Damson-Madder/Ganni-esque vibe.

Thank you Tilly and the Buttons for your services to super simple but very gorgeous, handmade gifting.

3. Bow Tote Bag

I stand by the fact that everyone needs a tote bag in their life. I also stand by the fact that everyone needs the Camille Bow Tote Bag in their life. It takes the usual shape of the ever-practical tote bag, with the addition of an oversized bow as the strap that very elegantly falls over the shoulders. It’s very simple but very chic and this will be perfect for anyone in your life who currently loves the bow trend (so maybe just about anyone and everyone?).

As always with Friedlies, the pattern comes as a pdf with a follow-along YouTube video. The pattern itself is very simple, so it’s perfect for sewists of all levels. Once you’ve made one, you’ll be making them for everyone.

4. Laptop Sleeve Bag

The Quilted Laptop Sleeve Bag by WellPressedShop on Etsy is another gorgeous pattern that has been on my to-sew list ever since I came across it on TikTok (@alexestcline). The design is a quilted 14” or 16” laptop sleeve with a tie closure to secure the contents in place. With this pattern, you can explore new techniques like quilting, making and sewing bias binding, and working with batting.

Unlike other sewing patterns, this is a cutting guide, meaning that you don’t actually print the pdf pattern to trace around. Instead, you follow the instructions for the measurements for you to trace out yourself, so you don’t even have the hassle of sticking together all the pages of pdf patterns – because when isn’t less paperwork always welcomed?

That should just about cover any and all gifting still left to do, and even if you have left it to the very last minute, with such beautiful presents you’ll be the star of the show. But there really is no time to waste, so happy sewing and have a lovely festive time, however you spend it! xx
